Masriat has existed since 1992 with Josephine as its Artistic Director. Drawing on a variety of Egyptian styles including Saidi, Baladi, Nubian and Oriental, Josephine has created a rich new body of choreography for the company. Some of the work is experimental, using her background in contemporary dance and working with music which is a fusion of east and west.
Masriat's repertoire ranges from the highly dramatic to witty and light-hearted. Josephine herself heads the soloists in the company. Her solo work is known for its skill and artistry, its authenticity and humour.
The Company takes different forms for different occasions, with one and three woman shows often performed, as well as the full company of 11 dancers in larger theatres.
